All lunches for the last day of school will be a sack lunch!
The Platte County School District is planning a closing ceremony for Rising Star Elementary, "A Fond Farewell to Rising Star" on Thursday, May 5, from 5-7 p.m. at Rising Star. The community, former and current staff members, students, and alumni are invited to attend this outdoor function to bid adieu to the elementary building. Our Rising Star students will also have the opportunity to perform a couple of songs for this event. Their performance will be conducted by our music teacher, Allison Thomas, and will be at 5:30pm in the back parking lot. We encourage all of our families to join us for this event!
The building will close after this school year, having served students for more than 60 years. It first opened in 1954 as Platte City Elementary, serving 1st through 6th grades. In 1997, the building was renamed Rising Star Elementary, upon the opening of Siegrist Elementary. As the school district has grown, the school building has accommodated fewer grade levels and has served Kindergarten only since 2002.
The evening will feature fun outdoor activities, and photo opportunities. Food items will be available for purchase via local food trucks, and dessert will be provided by the Platte City Elementary PTA. Photos, stories, traditions, and other Rising Star memorabilia will also be on display.
On PLC days car riders start lining up at 1:05.
