Random Acts of Kindness Taught at Compass Elementary

Students in several classes at Compass Elementary joined Laura Tyler's 1st grade class to send some holiday cheer to area nursing homes this winter. Inspired by "Random Acts of Kindness" ideas posted on social media, Mrs. Tyler decided to teach her students what it means to offer kindness and how they could make a difference in people's lives.

"My mom was a nurse in assisted living facilities, and I remember how much the holidays hurt her heart for many of the senior citizens living there. People often didn't or could not come visit for various reasons," Tyler shared. "We have somewhere around 600 students, how much love and cheer could we easily spread in such a simple way?!"

Compass Elementary students made 265 cards that were shared with residents at Hillview Nursing Home and Heritage Nursing Home in Platte City, Bristol Manor in Weston, Saxton Care Center in Saint Joseph, and Senior Village in Atchison.
