Winter Weather Information

Clothing and Recess

Please make sure that your children come to school dressed for the weather – winter coats, hats, gloves when necessary.  There will be no outdoor recess when the "feels like" temperature is at 20 degrees or below.  During times of year that temperatures can be unpredictable, dressing in layers is preferable.

School Closing and Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Information

Safety is priority number one when making the determination to cancel or delay school on any given day due to inclement weather. If snow, ice, or extreme cold make conditions unsafe, we will cancel or delay school. PCR-3 will implement traditional inclement weather days (no school and no virtual learning), until we reach a threshold that would push the school year past Memorial Day. We will make those days up per our academic calendar, and if we go past the planned make up days for inclement weather, we will implement our Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days or AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction). Click here for details on our Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days.

Notification

In the event of school cancellation or delay, we will get that information to you as early as possible through automated phone calls and text messages, our District website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the District Hotline (816-858-2752), and local media. The message will identify what type of Inclement Weather Plan we will be implementing:

Click here for a full description of each plan and what it means for students and families, as well as staff members.

Y Club

If we cancel school, our school-age child care programs generally will remain open for those families that are already signed up through YMCA (www.kansascityymca.org). School sites where child care is offered are consolidated to one or two locations. In the event of extreme severe winter weather whereby Platte County R-3 announces a “district-wide closure,” Y Club will also be closed on that day to ensure the safety of students and Y Club staff members.  Mention of Y Club program cancellation or consolidation will be included in the District’s communication via the outlets mentioned above.
